Podcasting is popular. Yes, more popular than it has ever been, but believe it or not, we’re still on the leading edge of this stuff despite what some “experts” might say. How many of your friends listen to them? How many even know what it is? Go ahead and ask, you’ll be surprised by the lack of awareness. So what exactly am I telling you? Do it because it’s hot, or don’t do it because no one is listening? Well, both actually. A podcast can really add a lot of value and differentiation to your niche business, but you need to move fast because the big boys are coming to play soon. Oh, and I’m telling you one more thing: Listen to this podcast!

Interesting. I’m about to launch a podcasting venture for a business and am trying to “learn up” quick. I’m doing tutorials on Lynda.com which are quite good. I’ve done a couple one-shot podcasts last year, but ran into virus trouble and got scared…
I’d be V. interested to know what gear (compression or dynamic mics, audio inputs other audio bling) you’re using – your production sounds quite professional. Perhaps an idea for a show.
Also interested in reliable hosts for podcasts – ie. Libsyn?
And, what about a meet up specifically for those interested in Podcasting and/or Podcatching

Annnnnd, guys, what about the idea of podcasting for those of use who are non-guys ;)

Hi, and thanks for your comment, my Lady!
I assure you I say “guys” in the most inclusive sense imaginable, but perhaps I’ll make better word choices! Lynda.com is a great resource, I’ve used them for some Adobe products. It sounds like people want to hear more about podcasting so we’ll certainly go over this in some more detail in an upcoming episode.
Both Shaun and I use Blue Snowball mics.

It is a great plug n’ play USB mic with no messing around. We produce this show in Audacity which is free (always nice!)
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
and use some simple Wordpress plug-ins to post the episodes. There is always so much more you can do to make your podcasts sound better and better, but you reach a point where it is unnecessary and you won’t enjoy it anymore.
I appreciate your listening, and if you have any more ideas please let us know! As I’ve said, we really want to form a community of excited people here!
Oh, and I like your site, great way to differentiate yourself as a “blogger”!

Thanks for info! Greats stuff. I’ve got my gear now. Audio technica condenser mic, and Tascam interface device. Using audacity. Have some tester podcasts done, but have loaded up yet.
    Seeing your feed on Twitter.
Will listen to your the next one – hope iTunes doesn’t bestow too much grief upon you.

Hi again, just listening to Part II of your TNS chat. Interesting. Enjoying the content.

    Soooo
I’ve produced my podcast – yeah!
It’s hosted on Liberated Syn and is now on iTunes – double yeah!
Search it under Gifted Typist, if you’re interested.

But I can’t seem to get my Wordpress podpress to work. I’m not sure whether to link it to iTunes or LibSyn. Or both. I put the libsyn RSS link into the plug-in but it can’t find the podcast. I put the direct libsyn link in the plug-in, but still nothing.
I can just like from my blog to the podcast and it works. Ditto itunes but I want the little player to show up, like you have.

I know I should get it on Feedburner but am almost afraid that it’ll get so confusing.

Don’t mean to bother you with my troubles, but I recall from your twitter feeds that you had a bit of a time of it getting everything to talk… Thought you might be able to point me to some good links…

Once I get that sorted, I also wanted to ask how you track your podcast stats and how you market the thing to wider audiences…. maybe a podcast is in order, guys.

BTW, haha, I also did a column on the poor capped New York banker trying to make do on $500K per year. It was in a couple weeks
